For Neoenergia, the fight against climate change is a guideline for its business, strengthening its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) . In line with the global policy of
Iberdrola, its parent company, it has the goal of neutralizing carbon emissions by 2050. One of the strategies is the massive investment in wind energy, a clean, renewable source that does not have the emission of carbon dioxide in its operation. This May 29, when the World Energy Day is celebrated, the company reinforces this positioning. By 2022, the wind complexes of
Chafariz (PB) and
Oitis (PI and BA) will be completed, with their installed capacity tripled, reaching 1.6 GW.
To reinforce this positioning and further boost the use of clean sources, i.e., with low impact on the environment, the company invested a total of R$ 461 million in renewable energy. The group's Hydroelectric Power Plants accounted for investments of R$45 million, considering R$35 million of recognition in intangible assets related to the GSF (Generation Scaling Factor) agreement of Itapebi, and, in Wind Power, the total was R$416 million, especially in projects under implementation. The amount represents about 25% of the total invested in the company during the period.
In
wind power generation, there are 17 farms in operation, with an installed capacity of 516 MW - enough energy to supply more than 1.1 million Brazilian homes, avoiding the emission of more than 830 thousand tons of CO² into the atmosphere. In addition, the 27 wind farms being implemented in Paraíba and Piauí will add another 1037 MW of power to the group's installed capacity. The expansion of the wind power portfolio is strategic because this is a source that does not emit greenhouse gases in production, and its installation brings countless benefits, such as the generation of employment and income.
This week, the company also started the construction of one of its main clean energy projects, the
Luzia solar parks, located in the municipality of Santa Luzia, in the Hinterlands of Paraíba. With the authorization for the start of construction of the Luzia III project, the company begins the construction of its first solar parks with production aimed at the free market.
World Energy Day
On May 29 is celebrated the World Energy Day, created with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of using renewable energy and energy efficiency. The World Energy Day came about from an initiative by Portugal's Directorate-General of Energy, in 1981. On this date, dozens of awareness activities are organized all over the world.
