Volunteer work is an extremely important activity, both for those who do it and for those who receive it. Helping others, whether directly or through an institution, donating time, money or work, is beneficial for one's own personal and professional development, helps in building contact networks, promotes cultural growth and, above all, contributes to the construction of a better society.

What is volunteer work?

According to Law 9.608/1998, volunteer work is the unpaid activity provided by an individual to a public entity of any nature or a private non-profit institution, which has civic, cultural, educational, scientific, recreational or social assistance objectives, including mutual aid. According to the United Nations, a volunteer is an individual who, due to their personal interest and civic spirit, dedicates part of their time to various forms of social welfare activities or other fields, without receiving payment for it.

But how does this volunteer work work, what types are there and how can you join?

What are the types of volunteering?

Volunteering is a way to get involved with important causes for society and the planet. In different sectors and environments, there are many ways to dedicate talent, time and resources to help others.

Anyone can apply to be a volunteer; all you need to do is choose the area of ​​activity that interests you the most. Activities can take place within companies, local communities/neighborhoods, daycare centers, nursing homes, hospitals, prisons, churches, among other places. The main areas of activity are:

  • In Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs);
  • Environment and animals;
  • Health;
  • Education;
  • Culture;
  • With the elderly;
  • Sports;
  • In exchange for accommodation;
  • Social.

Benefits of volunteering

In addition to contributing to the personal development of everyone involved, the experience provided by volunteer work is interesting for young people at the beginning of their careers and professionals who are changing fields, who have already worked in the market or are unemployed.

When included on a resume, charitable activities are considered important skills for job candidates, such as citizenship, interpersonal relationships and direct contact with society.

O Programa de Voluntariado da Neoenergia está conectado com as comunidades das áreas onde a empresa atua, beneficiando anualmente milhares de pessoas. As ações são protagonizadas pelos colaboradores nas cinco regiões do Brasil. O objetivo é sensibilizar e engajar as equipes em iniciativas que gerem impacto social, tanto no formato presencial quanto digital. O foco é atuar beneficiando três principais Objetivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável: 4 (educação de qualidade), 5 (igualdade de gênero) e 10 (redução das desigualdades).​

Os voluntários da Neoenergia podem acessar informações do programa interno por meio de uma plataforma digital própria da empresa, que também oferece vagas externas diretamente pelas ONGs em parceria com o Transforma Brasil, que possibilita oportunidades em instituições de todo o Brasil.

Além do programa, a Neoenergia organiza desde 2020 a Semana Internacional do Voluntariado, uma iniciativa global do Grupo Iberdrola, seu acionista e controlador. Durante o período, são promovidas atividades para estimular o engajamento dos colaboradores.

Neoenergia's Volunteer Program is connected to the communities in the areas where the company operates, benefiting thousands of people every year. The actions are led by employees in the five regions of Brazil. The goal is to raise awareness and engage teams in initiatives that generate social impact, both in person and digitally. The focus is to act to benefit three main Sustainable Development Goals: 4 (quality education), 5 (gender equality) and 10 (reduction of inequalities).

Neoenergia volunteers can access information about the internal program through the company's own digital platform, which also offers external vacancies directly through NGOs in partnership with Transforma Brasil, which provides opportunities in institutions throughout Brazil.

In addition to the program, Neoenergia has been organizing International Volunteer Week since 2020, a global initiative of the Iberdrola Group, its shareholder and controller. During the period, activities are promoted to encourage employee engagement.

The initiative offers permanent engagement opportunities through its own online platform for employees. All actions are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals proposed by the United Nations (UN).
International Volunteer Week

One of the main engagement activities, International Volunteer Week is a global initiative of Iberdrol, a group of which we are part. Held annually, it includes several actions that help improve the context in which we live and the quality of life of the most vulnerable people.
