Respect for the environment is one of Neoenergia's values and its management is incorporated through corporate sustainable development policies.
To align the environmental dimension with its sustainable business model and with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Neoenergia has an environmental management system that follows global corporate guidelines. This system enables the development of a permanent, global and homogeneous diagnosis of the company's environmental performance.
The Iberdrola group developed the Environmental Management System, with the objective of creating a common environmental structure among the Group's companies to measure and evaluate the group's environmental performance from the perspective of the life cycle, in addition to coordinating different plans and measures, respecting the regional standards, autonomy and specificities of each country.
In this way, the Environmental Management System converts corporate environmental policies into environmental guidelines:

Being environmentally sustainable translates into reducing greenhouse gas emissions and being more efficient in the production and use of energy, as well as in complying with environmental legislation and using the best international practices related to the subject. Thus, Neoenergia proposes to promote innovation and eco-efficiency and to progressively reduce the environmental impacts of the activities it carries out so that energy becomes a sustainable engine of the economy and an ally of balanced development.
In addition, Neoenergia discloses its own inventory of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions verified by independent auditors. The initiative is part of a series of measures that the company is carrying out with the objective of combating climate change. The audited inventory provides transparency and credibility to the data, promoting continuous improvement in environmental management. The survey, carried out in accordance with the guidelines of the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program, covers Neoenergia's generation of energy in renewables (wind and hydro), liberalized (thermal) and networks (transmission and distribution).
