Baixo Iguaçu
The Baixo Iguaçu Hydroelectric Power Plant, which is managed by a consortium formed by Neoenergia (70%) and Copel (30%), is located on the Iguaçu River, in the southwestern region of Paraná, between the municipalities of Capanema and Capitão Leônidas Marques. The project has three generating units, with sufficient capacity to serve 1 million inhabitants, through the production of clean and renewable energy.
Soon after entering into commercial operation on April 10, 2019, the Baixo Iguaçu HPP began to play a fundamental role in strengthening the stability of the National Interconnected System (SIN), and in the composition of the Brazilian energy matrix, which continues to expand rapidly in the country.

The consortium positively impacted the region, through infrastructure works, equipment purchases, and professional training. It also promoted the generation of jobs and boosted the collection of taxes in the five municipalities in its area of coverage.
The plant contributed to the regulation of the flow of the Iguaçu River, guaranteeing natural beauty and contributing to the preservation of the biodiversity of the Iguaçu National Park, which since 1986 has held the title of Natural World Heritage, granted by UNESCO.
During the construction period, the Baixo Iguaçu HPP organized actions in the areas of the physical, biotic and socioeconomic environment in the surrounding regions, reinforcing its commitment to people and the environment through its environmental programs. The venture seeks to contribute to sustainable development, so all the program's activities are still active today.

History of the venture
- 2.3 billion reais were invested in its construction.
- Construction began in 2013 and went into commercial operation in 2019.
- During the construction phase, it generated 3,100 jobs in the region.
- Its installed capacity is 350 MW.
- It has a 516 meter long dam.
Wildlife rescue and exploitation
Another important initiative is the Wildlife Rescue and Scientific Utilization Program. In this program, terrestrial fauna (amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals), semiaquatic fauna (otter and gecko turtle), as well as bee fauna in the areas of influence of the Baixo Iguaçu Hydroelectric Power Plant were removed and rescued in order to minimize the impacts of the suppression of vegetation and the reservoir. The reservoir areas partially or fully covered 345 rural properties located on the banks of the Iguaçu River. As a compensatory measure, the owners were included in the land program of the Baixo Iguaçu Entrepreneur Consortium. In addition to the legal compensation process, the project promoted the resettlement of 128 families from the region. Of this total, 106 non-landowning families went through the self-resettlement process. The rest were contemplated through rural resettlement. The new owners, independently, began to contribute more effectively to the local development and to the development of their own family. The resettled people have 70m² houses, electrification, water supply, access and 96m² shed. The program also provides technical, social and environmental assistance.
Sustainable development goals
The socioeconomic and environmental actions developed by the Baixo Iguaçu Entrepreneur Consortium converge with Iberdrola's business strategy, committed to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The hydroelectric power plant focuses especially efforts on providing affordable and non-polluting energy (objective 7), climate action (objective 13) and directly contributes to ensuring clean water and sanitation (objective 6), promoting respect for life in terrestrial ecosystems (objective 15).
