BWP 2024: Neoenergia believes that wind energy is fundamental to the country's fair and affordable energy transition
With 44 wind farms in operation, the company continues to invest in generation from renewable sourceswith a focus on sustainable development
As a protagonist of the energy transition, Neoenergia believes that electrifying the economy through renewable sources is the most efficient way to encourage decarbonization in Brazil. Taking part in the 14th edition of Brazil Windpower (BWP) in São Paulo, Laura Porto, Neoenergia's executive director for renewables, stressed that replacing dependence on fossil fuels requires new policies to encourage a low-carbon economy that consider investments linked to social public policies and that take into account the environmental attributes of renewable sources. According to her, this would be the best way to mitigate impacts and ensure the equitable distribution of benefits.
"The implementation of clean energy projects, especially those from wind power, is a great opportunity to expand clearer and more consistent policies with balanced economic signals for the use of natural resources. At the same time, this is an equation that must result in adequate tariffs in order to boost sustainable development and combat inequalities in the country," said Laura Porto. The executive took part in the BWP on Wednesday (23), on the panel "Scenarios for green industrialization policy - the role of the wind industry".
Considered the main congress for the wind sector in Latin America, the BWP will bring together executives from major brands, public authorities, representatives of sector organizations, entrepreneurs, consultants, service providers and manufacturers from the wind chain in the country and abroad until next Thursday (24).
Today, with 44 wind farms in operation, with a capacity of 1,554 MW, Neoenergia believes that decarbonization and the fight against climate change are at the heart of Brazil's green economy. For this reason, the company prioritizes this clean and renewable energy source for the sustainable growth of the segment towards a fair, inclusive and accessible energy transition.
Laura Porto also pointed out that wind power generation is currently a powerful and mature industry. "The source has socio-environmental attributes, brings reliability to the National Interconnected System (SIN) and, on several occasions, has proven its strategic importance for the country, mainly due to its energy complementarity with the hydroelectric system," she added.
According to the executive, wind energy stands out in the Brazilian scenario because it is a renewable energy source that is highly available in the country and whose use has low greenhouse gas emissions. In other words, in a low-carbon economy, it is essential and allows for less dependence on fossil fuels.
