Poções III/Medeiros Neto II stretch is 317 kilometers long and has 629 towers

This month, Neoenergia began commercial operation of the Poções III/Medeiros Neto II stretch in Bahia, which is part of the Morro do Chapéu project transmission line. The works were completed in the second quarter and finalized the installation of 633MVAr in the Poções III and Medeiros Neto II substations, enabling the project to be energized in August.

With a length of 317 kilometers, 629 towers and a voltage of 500kV, the section is the fourth to be delivered of the five in Morro do Chapéu, a project that is part of lot 2 of the auction held by the National Electricity Agency (Aneel) in 2020.

National strategic function

With a total length of 1,091 kilometers, crossing the states of Bahia, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, the Morro do Chapéu project will be responsible, among other benefits, for supplying energy for the expansion of the basic grid in the south of the Northeast. The transmission line will make it possible to supply power plants already contracted in the region and widen the margins for connecting new generation projects. In addition, Morro do Chapéu will contribute to improving the quality of energy supply in the extreme south of Bahia, a state where Neoenergia also operates in distribution through Neoenergia Coelba.

Neoenergia ended the first half of this year with investments of around R$1.9 billion entirely dedicated to the final construction of the lines and substations of the lots acquired in auctions. The company will complete the transmission investment cycle by the end of 2025.
