Neoenergia and Nexus Ligas sign 10-year wind power self-production agreement
With the signing of the contract, Neoenergia contributes to Nexus Ligas' commitment to having assets supplied by renewable sources of electricity
Neoenergia and Nexus Ligas have just announced an agreement under which Brazil's leading manganese alloy producer will become a partner in the Canoas 3 wind generating unit, of the Neoenergia Chafariz wind complex, located in Paraíba.
The purchase and sale agreement, signed as a self-production contract, will be valid for 10 years. As a result, Nexus guarantees access to 15MWm of renewable energy produced by the plant, enough to meet 27% of its current demand.
The deal was approved by the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) in June of this year. With the new agreement, Nexus Ligas is moving forward with its commitment to have its assets supplied by renewable energy sources in order to reduce or offset the organization's greenhouse gas emissions by 2035. As a protagonist of the country's energy transition, Neoenergia reinforces its role in expanding the decarbonization process of the Brazilian economy with the new partnership.
"We believe that this partnership reinforces our firm commitment to expanding the supply of renewable energy sources, electrification and reducing the use of fossil fuels, the basis for the low-carbon energy transition we seek for the country," said Eduardo Capelastegui, CEO of Neoenergia.
Neoenergia Chafariz is part of the Neoenergia Renewable Complex, which has an installed capacity of 471.25 MW, enough to produce energy to supply 1.3 million homes a year.
"The partnership with Neoenergia represents a strategic milestone for Nexus, aligning our quest for operational excellence with our firm commitment to sustainability.By securing this partnership, we strengthen our competitiveness in the market with greater predictability of energy costs," says Marcelo Marino, CEO of Nexus Ligas.
He also stresses that, as Brazil's leading producer of manganese alloys, Nexus' responsibility goes beyond the quality of the products delivered to customers. "This self-production operation demonstrates that it is possible to combine high industrial performance with environmental sustainability.Investing in renewable energy is investing in the future of our industry and in Nexus Ligas' long-term competitiveness on the national and international stage," concludes Marino.
