The climate emergency that the world is experiencing is transforming landscapes and societies. Natural resources call for changes in human behavior and the energy transition process is an action that requires the union of the various social actors in their most varied scales of action.

In this context and concerned with the socioeconomic development of the communities in which it operates inside and outside Rio Grande do Norte, Neoenergia became the pioneering company in the energy transition movement in Brazil, installing its first wind farm on the northern coast of Potiguar almost 20 years ago. A milestone in the generation of clean energy in this state that is blessed not only by its natural beauty, but also by the abundant wind and sun. And it is precisely this sun that, for decades, punished the hinterland by drying up rivers and dams, generates the energy of transformation in Seridó. This month, Neoenergia Cosern donated its first photovoltaic solar plant in the region.

The Multicampi School of Medical Sciences of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (EMCM/UFRN) received nearly 300 solar panels in its new building in the Penedo neighborhood. Today, through our Energy Efficiency Program regulated by the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL), we can affirm that the EMCM energy consumption efficiency process is linked to the new building, an old dream of teachers, students, technicians and directors.

We invested approximately R$ 500 thousand, at zero cost to the institution, and put into operation the third largest solar plant ever donated by the energy utility in the state to date. It will be responsible for the annual generation of 230 MWh/year. This volume is sufficient to supply, over a year, 200 homes with an average consumption of 110 kWh/month, and will provide an annual savings of 46% on the EMCM energy bill.

As bold as the pedagogical project of the Multicampi School, which positively transforms the reality of Seridó Potiguar by training female doctors, is the desire of Neoenergia Cosern to contribute to the decarbonization of its concession area by promoting renewable energy. And there is nothing better than internalizing this process in Seridó, which today we can call a land of clean energy and sustainable development.
