Iberdrola's global volunteer program awards Neoenergia employee
Neoenergia Coelba (BA)'s Occupational Health and Safety Technician stood out in actions on risks and dangers in the electricity grid and reading children's books in schools
Committed to fostering an environment of engagement and collective mobilization among its employees, Neoenergia stood out at the Iberdrola Volunteer Merit Recognition Awards. Layla Rebeca Gomes Costa, an occupational health and safety technician at Neoenergia Coelba (BA), received the award for her work and coordination in initiatives on risks and dangers in the electricity grid, and in the collection and reading of children's books in schools in Bahia, where the distributor serves around 6.7 million customers.
"Volunteering has always been a way of giving back to the community and making a real difference. In Neoenergia, I found a platform that supports my passion for education and community safety. Seeing the positive impact of our actions, especially on children's lives, is incredibly rewarding and motivates me to continue this important work," said Layla Gomes, on receiving the award at a ceremony at the headquarters of ScottishPower, an Iberdrola company in Glasgow, UK. The event was attended by Ignacio Galán (D), CEO of Iberdrola, and Jacqueline McLaren, Lord Provost of Glasgow.
In Brazil, Neoenergia's Volunteer Program recorded 3,767 participations in 2023, a 7% increase on 2022. Highlights include actions to collect food and personal hygiene items for vulnerable social groups, conversation circles, reading books to children and cleaning up waste in community streets.
In addition to the Neoenergia representative, Iberdrola awarded three other professionals from its companies in the United Kingdom (Scottish Power), Spain (Iberdrola) and the United States (Avangrid). All were recognized for their dedication and service in volunteering initiatives in their countries in the categories: education, environment, health and well-being; and dissemination and promotion. More than a quarter of Iberdrola's workforce does volunteer work every year, with more than 10 million people benefiting from actions carried out in 24 different countries.
