After establishing itself as a pioneer in supporting women's soccer by sponsoring the Brazilian Women's National Teams and the national club championship - the Neoenergia Women's Brasileirão - Neoenergia is expanding its activities to further strengthen women's sport in the country. The company has just signed a partnership until 2025 with the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) to support athletes in various Olympic disciplines, benefiting women athletes, including those who represent Team Brazil. The signing - which took place at the Time Brasil Training Center in Rio de Janeiro - was announced on Thursday (18).

Leadership in supporting women's sport

The new sponsorship consolidates Neoenergia's leadership as the company that, today, is recognized in the energy sector as the one that most supports women's sport in Brazil. The funds from the partnership will be allocated to the BOC in initiatives based on two pillars: gender equality and sustainability.

"Supporting the BOC is in line with our commitments to strengthening the role of women in society and promoting sustainability in the country. We are a company committed to an ambitious strategy aimed at increasing gender equality, both through a work environment with more positions for women and by encouraging women's sport. Now, alongside Olympic athletes, our reach will be even greater to reaffirm these goals," said Eduardo Capelastegui, CEO of Neoenergia.

Eduardo Capelastegui, CEO of Neoenergia (L), and Rogério Sampaio, director general of the BOC, celebrate the partnership.

Historic moment for Olympic sport

The partnership with the BOC comes at a landmark moment in the history of Brazilian Olympic sport. For the first time, the number of women athletes in Team Brazil will exceed that of the men at an Olympic Games. Paris 2024 will have around 55% female participation, with 153 women out of a total of 276 qualified athletes (figures up to July 16).

"The partnership between the BOC and Neoenergia is a cause for celebration and great pride, as it carries very important values that connect us and have every synergy with the Olympic Movement. This partnership gives us the opportunity to talk to society about attitudes and values that are aligned with the purposes of sustainability and gender equality. This sponsorship from Neoenergia comes at a time when the BOC is aligned with these and other issues that are so sensitive in today's world, and reinforces all our objectives in the actions we have been developing in favor of an Olympic sport that is more aware of its role," said Rogério Sampaio, general director of the Brazilian Olympic Committee.

New opportunities with Olympic sport

Together with the BOC, Neoenergia hopes to expand the opportunities for thousands of girls and women to win a place on Team Brazil. "Neoenergia's sponsorship with the COB represents the union of two champion brands that, together, have the purpose of making more women represent Team Brazil to conquer Olympic podiums and world championships. This moment becomes even more special to inspire Brazilian women who want to shine in and out of sport," said Lorenzo Perales, Neoenergia's Marketing Director.

The executive reinforces the importance of the company in the rise of women's soccer in the country, which was chosen to host the Women's World Cup in 2027, the first in South America. "It's a historic milestone that underscores our commitment to the pursuit of gender equality through women's sport. With support for athletes in Olympic disciplines, we're going even further," added Lorenzo Perales.

"In the run-up to Paris, since the launch in October 2022 of our new sponsorship program, COB+, the BOC has managed to sign partnerships with 15 new companies that support the Brazilian Olympic Movement. Now, with Neoenergia, we have a total of 21 sponsors.Neoenergia will act on two pillars that are strategic for us: renewable energy and equity," said Gustavo Herbetta, the BOC's Marketing Director.

Gustavo Herbetta added that "the partnership aims to strengthen these initiatives in our Women in Sport area and to start decarbonization work through our training center in Rio de Janeiro, contributing to our goals with the International Olympic Committee and Brazilian society in both pillars, and increasingly reinforcing the interest of the private sector in associating itself with our brand, our values and the deliveries of excellence that the BOC carries out on a daily basis".

Neoenergia at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

Team Neoenergia's sponsorship has already helped three athletes qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. They are: Ana Marcela, Olympic open water champion; Ana Vitória Magalhães, Tota, Brazilian time trial cycling champion; and Antonia Silva, full-back in the Brazilian Women's Football Team. The group of brand ambassadors also includes Bruna Kajiya, four-time kitesurfing world champion; Mirelle Leite, two-time South American champion in the 3,000m hurdles at U23 level; and Celine Bispo, South American youth swimming champion, who - through the COB's program for young athletes - will be at the Paris Games.

Paris 2024 and sustainability

By adopting a policy of halving carbon emissions, Paris 2024 is the first Olympics of the Modern Era to be 100% sustainable, compared to the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Games. The 2024 edition follows the standards set out in the Olympic Agenda 2020+5 and the Paris Agreement.
