More than 260,000 8th and 9th grade students from the country's public and private schools entered the competition

The National Energy Efficiency Olympics (ONEE) 2024, an initiative of the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL), has just released the results of its record edition: 8,000 8th and 9th grade students were awarded medals, 2,666 of them gold, in an event that mobilized around 260,000 students across the country. The competition, which saw the participation of 48 of Brazil's electricity distribution concessionaires, from every state in the country and the Federal District, selected the best students in tests and challenges held between October 7 and 12.

In addition to the gold, silver and bronze medals, the competition guaranteed a special award for the best students in each state, who will receive notebooks and will be honored at a ceremony in Brasilia on the 27th, at SESI Lab. The gold, silver and bronze medal-winning students will also automatically advance to the second phase of the 2025 National Science Olympiad (ONC).

Neoenergia supported the initiative, reinforcing its commitment to education and sustainability in its five distribution companies - Neoenergia Brasília (DF), Neoenergia Coelba (BA), Neoenergia Cosern (RN), Neoenergia Elektro (SP/MS) and Neoenergia Pernambuco (PE).

The ONEE aims to provide students with information on the safe and rational use of electricity, as well as helping to create a generation of more aware consumers.

"The National Energy Efficiency Olympics plays a fundamental role in promoting best practices in the efficient use of energy.It's an important milestone for training teachers and students in conscious energy consumption," said Ana Christina Mascarenhas, superintendent of Neoenergia's Energy Efficiency Program.

The 2024 edition was coordinated by the Abradee Institute and made possible with funds from the Energy Efficiency Program managed by ANEEL.
