BWP 2024: Neoenergia acredita que país tem potencial para desenvolver eólica offshore no longo prazo

BWP 2024: Neoenergia believes the country has the potential to develop offshore wind in the long term

10/24/24

For the company, the first step towards the development of offshore wind is the definition of a legal framework to guarantee legal and regulatory certainty for the new sector

The definition of a legal framework is fundamental to guaranteeing legal and regulatory certainty for the long-term development of offshore wind generation in the country. For Neoenergia, the guidelines will also be important so that the first auctions don't burden the sector at the beginning of its evolution.

"The development of offshore wind represents a great opportunity for Brazil in the medium and long term. That's why it's important for the country to prepare and position itself for this new clean and renewable source. The current scenario is similar to what we experienced in the past when onshore wind generation was considered an alternative energy," said Marcelo Lopes, director of Hydraulics and Offshore at Neoenergia.

Neoenergia is currently carrying out preliminary studies for the long-term development of offshore wind generation in the country, including measuring wind resources and meteocenographic data, modeling seabed conditions, evaluating port infrastructure, evaluating electrical connections, environmental and social assessments, among others. The company has signed five memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with states and partners (RS, CE, RJ, RN and Porto do Açu) for the development of offshore wind generation in the country.

The executive took part in the 14th edition of Brazil Windpower (BWP) in a debate on risk, credibility and the infra-legal environment for the development of wind projects. Considered the main congress for the wind sector in Latin America, BWP brings together executives from major brands, public authorities, representatives of sector organizations, entrepreneurs, consultants, service providers and manufacturers from the wind chain in Brazil and abroad until this Thursday (24) in São Paulo.
