After expanding its support for women's sport in the country, Neoenergia has just announced a new phase in its partnership with the Brazilian Olympic Committee (BOC). This time, the union of the two brands is focused on supplying 100% renewable electricity, on the free market, until the end of the year for the Time Brasil Training Center in Rio de Janeiro. The supply of renewable energy will allow the BOC to zero out emissions related to scope 2, which deals specifically with electricity consumption, with a reduction in emissions of around 100 tons ofCO2 in the year, which corresponds to 2,146 air trips between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. In addition, the BOC will save around R$1.4 million on the CT's energy costs by the end of the year.

In this way, the initiative contributes to the BOC achieving the commitment it made in 2020 to the Sports for Climate Action (S4CA) movement, which aims to reduce or offset the organization's greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030. The energy supply for the CT began in March this year.

A protagonist in Brazil's energy transition, Neoenergia will supply the space with 2,049,387 kWh of I-REC certified energy from a totally renewable matrix by the end of this year, which is equivalent to the annual consumption of more than 1,300 low-income homes. The I-REC (International Renewable Energy Certificate) is a globally recognized certificate that guarantees the renewable origin of the energy used. Generation will be supplied by Neoenergia Oitis, a wind farm complex made up of 12 farms in the states of Piauí and Bahia. The wind energy production structure is Neoenergia's largest in operation, and one of the most important in the country.

"Renewable energy sources represent the best way forward for the country's energy transition. The partnership with the BOC reaffirms our commitment to innovation and sustainability. We continue to play an active role in decarbonization with solutions, such as migration to the free energy market, that use clean sources, contributing to the reduction of CO2emissions, " says Eduardo Capelastegui, CEO of Neoenergia. The company recently came second in the overall ranking of the B3 Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE B3), ranking first among companies in the electricity sector.

For Olympic champion and BOC general director Emanuel Rego, the partnership with Neoenergia reinforces the commitment to expanding the culture of sustainability in Brazilian sport. "Having 100% renewable electricity at the CT, through Neoenergia, is another step forward and an important impact on our operations. We are working to strengthen the culture of sustainability at all levels of the BOC, in the daily lives of our employees, in our work processes, in the events held and in our missions," said Emanuel.

"Having partners and sponsors engaged in sustainability only reinforces our commitment and willingness to mature in this direction. For us, it is an immense source of pride that the home of Brazilian athletes is aligned with environmental principles," said Manoela Penna, the BOC's Communications and Marketing Director.

More support for women's sport in Brazil

As well as helping the BOC achieve its sustainability goals at CT Time Brasil, the partnership between Neoenergia and the BOC, announced in July last year, allows the company to expand its activities to further strengthen women's sport in the country. The initiative mainly benefits female athletes, including those who represent Time Brasil. In this way, the sponsorship consolidates Neoenergia's leadership as the company that, today, is recognized in the energy sector as the one that most supports women's sport in Brazil.

"Our partnership with the COB represents the union of two solid brands that position Brazilian sport as one of the main references in sustainability. Our marketing strategy is aligned with a business model that values two important agendas in contemporary society: sustainability and equal opportunities," says Lorenzo Perales, Neoenergia's Marketing Director.

Neoenergia also promotes women's sport through Team Neoenergia, which already has eight athletes in different sports. The initiative contributed, for example, to the qualification of three athletes for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The athletes are: Ana Vitória Magalhães, Tota (cycling); Bruna Kajiya (kitesurfing); Mirelle Leite (athletics); Ana Marcela (open water); Celine Bispo (swimming); Antonia Silva (soccer); Bia Souza (judo) and Rayane Soares (paralympic athletics).
