Neoenergia Institute closes 2024 with an increase in investments and beneficiaries in the interior of the country
With investments of R$ 24 million, the organization reached 95% of its operations outside the Brazilian capitals, promoting social inclusion for around 650,000 people in 145 cities in eight states and the Federal District
With a focus on expanding its operations in the interior of the country, the Neoenergia Institute promoted 69 programs and projects in 145 locations last year, 95% of which took place outside the capitals. The organization invested R$24 million - around 25% more than in 2023 - which benefited more than 650,000 people in eight states and the Federal District and supported actions dedicated to valuing cultural diversity, support for social organizations, climate resilience and the appreciation of Brazil's historical heritage. These are the main results of the organization's activity report, "Memory of Activities 2024", released this week. Access the document here.
"We remain committed to multiplying our initiatives in the Brazilian countryside, where we have supported a series of projects and programs, through our own resources and incentive laws, to promote actions on various fronts such as culture, the environment and social development. This work aims to value the communities where Neoenergia is present," explains Renata Chagas, CEO of the Neoenergia Institute.
The executive adds that the institution is continuing to expand its activities this year in cities in the countryside with a unified call for proposals that has the support of 15 incentive laws for the development of initiatives in the areas of art, culture, sport, childhood and adolescence, the elderly, people with disabilities or people undergoing cancer treatment.
Long-lasting partnerships and focus on the territory
The report also includes social impact indicators and stories of leaders of organizations supported by the Neoenergia Institute, such as Edielson Miranda, known as Mestre Roxinho, founder and president of the Bantu Cultural Institute, located in Vera Cruz, on Itaparica Island, about 24 kilometers from Salvador, Bahia. The institution is dedicated to socio-cultural activities, using capoeira de Angola as a teaching method for children and young people in situations of social vulnerability.
Through the mentoring and financial support offered by the Institute, Mestre Roxinho has found new ways to move forward and significantly expand the impact of his work. "The Neoenergia Institute brings this idea of light, it gives us the ability to see the next day and the future," he said. In 2024, the Bantu Cultural Institute took part in the Impactô Social Acceleration Program, developed in partnership with the Ekloos Institute. The program benefited a total of more than 4,000 people from São Paulo, Rio Grande do Norte and Pernambuco, as well as Bahia.
Among the innovations launched in 2024 by the Neoenergia Institute is the Jogando Juntas call for proposals aimed at sports institutions that develop activities for girls and women. Aline Silva, founder of the Mempodera project, which runs wrestling classes for girls at the Itariri and Pedro de Toledo centers in the interior of São Paulo, recognizes the importance of private social investment. "It's not always easy to explain to a funder the importance of discussing social inequalities through sport. But the Neoenergia Institute came with a totally different approach. The proposal was not just to sponsor an action, but to genuinely support the transformation of the local community," she concluded. The athlete founded Mempodera after playing for more than 20 years in the Brazilian wrestling team and becoming a reference in the sport.
