Microlearning: How Neoenergia's Internal Communications Engages Teams and Reduces the Impact of Information Overload

With over 25 years of experience in Human Resources, Fabio Folchetti explains the methodology that has been an important tool for communication and integration among teams within the company.

Neoenergia's Director of People and Organization works in partnership with leaders to implement impactful HR strategies and foster high-performance teams, aligning organizational culture with business objectives.

How does microlearning help convey important company messages continuously and without overwhelming employees?

At Neoenergia, microlearning has been a strategic tool for maintaining fluid and effective communication with our team. We use short videos, interactive infographics, and digital in-depth lessons to integrate key company messages into employees' daily lives without requiring long periods of dedication. This approach allows for lightweight and continuous reinforcement of topics such as organizational culture, health and safety, compliance, and customer experience.

How can short, objective content make communication clearer, reduce cognitive fatigue, and increase retention of key messages?

We live in a world where employee attention is competed for not only by information circulating within the company, but also by all information coming from outside, such as social media. Therefore, microlearning stands out for its objectivity and focus. By delivering content in formats such as videos up to 3 minutes long, quizzes, and interactive infographics, we capture employees' attention and facilitate the assimilation of messages. Our training evaluations have shown that the lightweight and dynamic nature of this format significantly increases employee engagement and retention.

Which microlearning formats have proven most effective for engaging different employee profiles?

The most effective formats include motion and whiteboard videos up to 3 minutes long, such as those we use to address health, safety, and organizational culture topics; Interactive infographics, which allow personalized navigation and visual reinforcement of key concepts; learning maps with up to 100 screens, applied to complex topics such as ESG and regulation; and podcasts and videocasts, which allow us to address diverse topics in a light and accessible way. We are always seeking new formats to capture attention and promote information retention among our employees.

How can microlearning reinforce values, practices, and organizational culture?

Microlearning has been essential in disseminating the pillars of Neoenergia's culture—Humanization, Ownership, Resolution, and Agility. Through initiatives such as the influencer program and the content of the Strategic Capabilities Journey project, we have been able to engage employees in practices that directly reflect the company's values.
Furthermore, the use of microlearning in onboarding and diversity training, such as the Diversity & Inclusion Literacy Program, reinforces expected behaviors and encourages continuous learning.

What indicators and metrics can demonstrate the impact of microlearning on internal communication?

We use indicators such as: Quantity of content produced and accessed; Adherence and participation rate in livestreams; Evaluation of training response; and Engagement percentage in internal campaigns. These metrics vary and demonstrate not only the reach, but also the effectiveness of the strategy.

Should microlearning be seen as a complement or a key player in the coming years?

Here at Neoenergia, microlearning is already a key player in several areas of learning and communication.
The digital acceleration and the demand for more agile and autonomous professionals make this approach indispensable. Microlearning is a central part of our development strategy, enabling personalized and agile knowledge delivery.
