Renewal anticipated by the MME inaugurates a new investment cycle between 2026 and 2030, with an increase of 82% compared to the previous period

Neoenergia is advancing its long-term strategy in the Brazilian electricity sector with the early renewal of the concession contracts of three more distributors - Neoenergia Coelba (BA), Neoenergia Cosern (RN) and Neoenergia Elektro (SP/MS) -, formalized this Friday (8) by the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME). The group was the first to obtain the early renewal of an energy distribution concession in the country, Neoenergia Pernambuco, whose new contract was signed in October 2025, until 2060.

The 30-year extension marks the start of a new investment cycle for the company, with investments of R$50 billion between 2026 and 2030, an 82% increase on the previous cycle (2021-2025), when R$27.5 billion was invested.

Of the total, 46% of the funds will go towards expanding the electricity infrastructure, while 40% will go towards modernizing, digitizing and improving the network, with a focus on quality of supply, strengthening the resilience of the networks and electrifying the economy. The remaining 14% will go towards combating energy losses and supporting operational infrastructure, such as systems, fleets and information technology.

The funds will benefit the company's more than 17 million customers - the country's largest in energy distribution - most of whom are concentrated in the four concessions renewed in the states of Bahia (Neoenergia Coelba), Pernambuco (Neoenergia Pernambuco), Rio Grande do Norte (Neoenergia Cosern) and in regions of São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul (Neoenergia Elektro), reinforcing the reliability of the electricity system and expanding the network's capacity to meet the expansion in consumption, digitalization and the country's new energy demands. Neoenergia also has the Brasília concession (Neoenergia Brasília), acquired in 2021 and which is not undergoing the current concession renewal process.

"The early renewal made possible by the government, through the Ministry of Mines and Energy, recognizes the consistency of our performance and creates conditions for us to continue investing with predictability, legal and regulatory certainty, and, above all, customer focus. Our commitment is to continuously improve service quality, increase network resilience and incorporate technologies that make energy distribution increasingly safe and efficient in all our concession areas," said Eduardo Capelastegui, CEO of Neoenergia.

Company that invests most in infrastructure

In the last four years, Neoenergia was the company that invested the most in the country's infrastructure sector among private companies, according to data from the Brazilian Association of Infrastructure and Basic Industries (Abdib). In 2025, the company again made record investments - R$10.1 billion in the year, mostly in distribution.

Strategic projects in renewed concessions

In this new cycle of investments in the renewed concessions, Neoenergia will deliver projects that will transform the electricity infrastructure of the states. In Bahia, for example, one of the priorities will be the coast, which will receive a strategic set of works on the electricity grid. This will transform the country's longest stretch of coastline.

The project, worth more than R$7 billion, includes the installation of 18 new substations and the modernization and expansion of another 10 units, with the incorporation of advanced technologies and automation. These improvements will reinforce the quality and continuity of the energy supply for the region's approximately 2.9 million customers and the more than 10 million visitors who visit the state's coast every year.

In the west of Bahia, one of Brazil's largest irrigation hubs and the driving force behind national agribusiness, around R$2 billion will be invested in expanding the region's electricity system, in continuation of a robust plan that has already been implemented in recent years. The project includes the construction of 10 new substations and the expansion of the capacity of another 14, doubling the installed capacity and guaranteeing energy to sustain economic growth, create jobs and support thousands of rural producers.

In Elektro's concession area, the highlight is a project that represents a new level for the energy infrastructure of Ilhabela, an important tourist region on the São Paulo coast. With an investment of R$200 million, it is planned to build a new substation and an underground and underwater transmission line, a solution that reduces visual and environmental impacts while respecting the local ecosystem and the island's natural landscape. The initiative, which will boost tourism development on the state's northern coast for the next 30 years, was designed to harmonize development and conservation, preparing the region for future energy demand.

In Rio Grande do Norte, Neoenergia Cosern is also making a structural leap in the supply of energy to the coast, with investments that accompany the growth of the cities, strengthen tourism and improve the lives of those who live, work or visit the region.

On the North Coast, the start-up of the Estivas substation and the João Câmara II-Zabelê distribution line represents a decisive boost for the regional electricity system. With an investment of more than R$100 million, the infrastructure will now serve around 180,000 customers, guaranteeing robust energy for a wide tourist corridor. On the South Coast, the highlight is the Tabatinga Substation, which will benefit more than 21,000 customers. The project includes five new circuits, 19 kilometers of distribution lines and an investment of R$40 million.
