Neoenergia announces partnership with Sport Club do Recife to supply 100% renewable energy on the free market

With the new contract, rubro-negro will save around R$5.5 million over 8 years, as well as reducingCO2 emissions from its headquarters, training center and Ilha do Retiro stadium

Neoenergia has just signed a partnership with Sport Club do Recife to supply 100% renewable electricity through the free market. The new contract will help the red-black team reduce electricity costs by up to 31% at the club's headquarters, the José de Andrade Médicis Training Center and the Adelmar da Costa Carvalho Stadium, popularly known as Ilha do Retiro, in the capital of Pernambuco. The club will be able to save around R$5.5 million over the next eight years.

The amount of energy that will be supplied to the infrastructure of one of Brazil's most traditional soccer clubs is equivalent to 152 gigawatt-hours (GWh), enough to supply around 1,000 low-income homes over the same period.

"The entry of sports organizations into the free market will provide predictability in energy spending and make club management more efficient.100% renewable energy helps these institutions become more sustainable and achieve theirCO2 reduction targets," says Rita Knop, Neoenergia's Commercial Director.

Neoenergia will supply all the units with I-REC certified energy, from a 100% renewable matrix. The I-REC (International Renewable Energy Certificate) is a globally recognized certificate that guarantees the renewable origin of the energy used.

The partnership also allows Sport Club do Recife to make the three facilities more sustainable by reducingCO2 emissions. It is estimated that the club will be able to avoid emitting around 7,000 tons ofCO2. This amount of greenhouse gases (GHGs) corresponds to planting 43,000 trees.

"Migrating to the free market with Neoenergia is a fundamental step for Sport's efficiency. The rigorous management of our resources guarantees savings of R$5.5 million over the next few years. This predictability allows us to focus investment on what is most needed," says Danilo Vieira, Commercial Manager of Sport Club do Recife.

With the new partnership, Neoenergia expands its operations in the free market within the sports segment. Sport Club do Recife is the second club in the Northeast to become a customer of Neoenergia's free market. Since last year, Esporte Clube Bahia SAF, another traditional Brazilian soccer team, has migrated the energy supply of its training center to the free market, which will lead the club to reduce energy costs by up to R$2.2 million by 2030. Since last year, the company has been supplying energy to the Time Brasil Training Center of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) in Rio de Janeiro. The contract will provide savings of around R$4.5 million on the CT's energy costs by 2028.

How the free energy market works

Neoenergia offers the supply of clean energy through the free market from 100% renewable sources. Among the advantages is the predictability of energy costs, since structured contracts allow for greater budgetary control over time.

Currently, the energy trading segment already supplies more than 95% of Brazilian industry's consumption. For this reason, interested parties should be careful to choose suppliers that have their own generation and solid governance models in order to avoid the risk of breaking contracts and suspending supply.

In order for a customer to be able to port, Neoenergia offers specialized support, analyzing the feasibility of the switch. This study includes observing the consumption history of the last 12 months, with the aim of analyzing the customer's energy demand behavior. The change is authorized for customers connected to medium and high voltage, of the so-called Group A, with payments above R$ 5,000 per month.
