Neoenergia renews lighting for 326 public municipal schools in four states
The replacement of incandescent, fluorescent or halogen lamps with LED models represents an average saving of 40% in a building's lighting system. Aimed to provide this efficiency to state and municipal schools, Neoenergia changed, from January to September 2020, 65,588 lamps in 326 of 326 public schools in four states in its concession area – Bahia (Coelba), Pernambuco (Celpe), Rio Grande do Norte (Cosern) and São Paulo (Elektro). The initiative is a part of the Building Efficiency project, under the Energy Efficiency program, regulated by the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL).
LED lamps have the same luminous flux as fluorescent lamps, but consume less energy. "Energy saving benefits schools by reducing energy bills and adopting more sustainable practices. By changing the lamps, we are contributing to the preservation of the environment and setting an example for future generations who are being trained in these institutions", says Neoenergia's Energy Efficiency manager, Ana Christina Mascarenhas.
In the project, in addition to replacing inefficient lamps with LED models, lectures are held for school representatives on the efficient use of energy and safety with electrical appliances. The objective is for this knowledge to be disseminated in the institutions, stimulating the conscious consumption of energy in the entire school community.
From January to September 2020, Elektro replaced 36,101 lamps in 200 state and municipal schools in 12 cities in São Paulo. Coelba installed, in the same period, 17,588 LED lamps in 77 institutions. In the same nine-month period, Celpe actions promoted the lighting renewal of 34 municipal and state schools in Pernambuco, in a total amount of 9,839 lamps changed. In Cosern concession area, 15 schools were benefited, with 2,060 new lamps.
Public or non-profit schools of an essentially philanthropic or welfare nature can register to receive the actions, through the e-mail eficiencia@neoenergia.com, and await for the technical assessment. In order to benefit from the project, the institution shall operate in its own property, located in the concession municipalities of Neoenergia's distributors.
