Neoenergia Institute's cultural lighting program reconnects Itanhaém residents with their own history

The Neoenergia Institute will be handing over the new lighting at Itanhaém's Nossa Senhora de Conceição Convent this Tuesday (10) at 7pm. Part of the organization's Cultural Lighting Programme, the historic building has undergone a process of conservation and restoration over the last few months.

A 492-year-old Brazilian heritage site, the Nossa Senhora da Conceição Convent has been a temple of faith and devotion for over 400 years. Located at the top of Itaguaçu hill, in the Historic Center of Itanhaém, its construction is in the 16th and 17th century Colonial Baroque style and began around 1639. The Convent is the oldest building in Itanhaém. It is among the first churches to be built in Brazil and was listed by IPHAN in 1939 and CONDEPHAAT in 1975.

The inauguration of the Convent's new eco-efficient lighting project, made up of high-performance, low energy consumption LED projectors capable of generating savings of up to 60% in its lighting, is scheduled for 19:15.

"Valuing the historical legacy of our country's emblematic buildings, supporting socio-economic development, strengthening sustainable tourism and engaging the local community with heritage education activities are our main objectives with this initiative. We want to revive the memory of the regions covered, boosting social inclusion, generating work and income and creating new opportunities," explains Renata Chagas, CEO of the Neoenergia Institute.

The Cultural Lighting Program in Itanhaém, a town about 90 kilometers from the state capital, is an initiative of the Neoenergia Institute in partnership with Itanhaém City Hall and the Diocese of Santos, which has managed the convent since 1916, and in technical partnerships with Brasilis and Neoluz.
