Neoenergia plans to invest R$4.7 million by 2025 to promote energy efficiency in Federal Education institutions, including universities and institutes, in the concession areas of its five distributors - Neoenergia Brasília (DF), Neoenergia Coelba (BA), Neoenergia Cosern (RN), Neoenergia Elektro (SP/MS) and Neoenergia Pernambuco (PE).More than 1,800 light bulbs and 2,300 luminaires and reflectors will be replaced with more efficient models.

"We are committed to investing in an efficient, fair and inclusive energy transition. Promoting energy efficiency in educational institutions fulfills this objective. In addition to saving energy, the initiative encourages conscious use among students and teachers, creating a sustainable culture for the entire community," says Ana Mascarenhas, Neoenergia's Energy Efficiency Superintendent.

From 2020 to 2024, the company has already allocated another R$23.8 million to energy efficiency initiatives in Federal Education institutions, which in addition to encouraging more efficient consumption, help to reduce the value of the electricity bills of the units served. The funds are allocated through the Energy Efficiency Program, regulated by the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL).

More efficient lighting

Among the program's actions over the last four years is the replacement of more than 345,000 LED bulbs for internal lighting in federal educational institutions. In Rio Grande do Norte, there was the greatest demand for replacement bulbs (115,000), followed by Bahia (105,000). 2,154 IP luminaires and reflectors for external lighting were also replaced - more than half of them (1,100) in São Paulo, in Neoenergia Elektro's concession area. In addition, seven solar photovoltaic plants were installed on the roofs of federal educational institutions, with a total capacity of 637 kilowatt-peaks (kWp). In Rio Grande do Norte, we also highlight the modernization and efficiency of the external lighting and environmental conditioning systems at the Central Campus in Natal and the Jundiaí Agricultural School (EAJ/UFRN) in Macaíba.

Educational projects

Committed to encouraging more and more efficient energy consumption, Neoenergia also develops educational projects in its concessions. See the programs below:

  • Aulas de Energia (Energy Classes) - disseminates the rational use of energy and environmental resources with classes in fixed spaces - Museu da Coelba (BA), SesiLab (DF), Espaço Noronha (PE) and Ecoposto Maracajaú (RN) - and in the Mobile Educational Unit.
  • Tô Ligado na Energia (I'm Connected to Energy) Festival - held in public schools, it encourages knowledge about the safe and conscious use of electricity in a playful and creative way.
  • Energia que Transforma (EQT) - with a methodology developed by the Roberto Marinho Foundation, Canal Futura and Procel, the program trains educators to promote the fight against energy waste as a way of preserving theenvironment .
  • National Energy Efficiency Olympiad - encourages sustainable habits for the efficient use of electricity and stimulates learning in the field of natural sciences.
