BWP 2024: Neoenergia's social initiatives strengthen the company's relationship with communities
Committed to sustainable development in the locations where it operates, the company invests in social actions that are considered a model for the wind generation sector
Aware that a resilient, sustainable and socially responsible company requires a solid agenda of ESG commitments, Neoenergia invests in a relationship model with communities that is currently considered a model for the wind power generation sector in the country. In addition to complying with legislation in all its projects, the company promotes actions that go beyond legal limits for the benefit of the environment and social welfare. These are initiatives that have also been highlighted for applying the best global practices for social and environmental coexistence.
"These are actions that are in line with the ESG policies maintained by the company and which follow a methodology approved by environmental bodies and international institutions at all stages of the project, from conception, construction and operation. They are all based on a long-term relationship process, in which the environment and stakeholders are at the heart of the project. Many actions are also linked to health, culture, education and income generation. This approach has turned us into a relationship role model for other communities and renewable entrepreneurs," says Thaisa Almeida, Neoenergia's Business Origination Superintendent.
One point highlighted by the executive refers to the land issue: Neoenergia only practices the land lease modality, without acquisitions, keeping the individual in their original territory, reinforcing and encouraging the importance of maintaining the origins and natural anthropic process of each location, fixing the person in the countryside. The projects are designed around the concept of coexistence of activities - pre-existing farming practice, where applicable, and energy generation.
According to Thaisa, the initiatives generate value for society and all its stakeholders, including the communities in the areas directly and indirectly linked to the company's wind farms. One successful example is in Dom Inocêncio (PI) and Casa Nova (BA), where the Neoenergia Oitis wind farm is located. With the aim of providing local citizens with qualifications and broadening their opportunities, the company offered a number of free vocational courses chosen by the community itself.
In the Sumidouro Quilombola Community, located in the municipality of Queimada Nova (PI), close to the Oitis transmission line connection unit, Neoenergia helped strengthen local culture through activities aimed at educating children, young people and adults, including capoeira and accordion lessons. The initiative is also important for valuing the conservation of the intangible cultural heritage that this traditional community has carried with it over time.
The executive took part in the 14th edition of Brazil Windpower (BWP) on Wednesday (23) in São Paulo. Considered the main congress for the wind sector in Latin America, the BWP will bring together executives from major brands, public authorities, representatives of sector organizations, entrepreneurs, consultants, service providers and manufacturers from the wind chain in Brazil and abroad until Thursday (24).
