Construction Safety and Renovations
To carry out a job safely, extra care must be taken to avoid possible accidents and minimize risks with electricity.
According to the Brazilian Association of Electric Power Distributors (Abradee), civil construction is the activity in which most accidents involving the electrical grid occur in Brazil - in most cases, due to lack of basic care such as maintaining a safe distance from the grid, increasing attention with iron bars, battens and other types of metallic materials.
Protective equipment
During the service, the performance of qualified professionals and the use of personal and collective protective equipment are initial requirements for risk reduction. Preventing improper access and contact with electrical wires is another commonly overlooked safety rule. The approximation of the works to the electrical grid combined with the lack of attention, the ignorance of the dangers and the inadequate handling of the tools can be fatal, if the worker contacts the energized network. Remember, before starting work, it is essential to observe the electrical wiring distance and respect the limits. Walls, windows and balconies must not be built closer than 2.5 meters from the power distribution network.

Antenna installation
Radio and TV antenna installations must be done away from the electrical network. The supports of these equipment are generally made of metal and, therefore, good conductors of electricity. During installation, care must be taken when moving or tilting them, at the risk of hitting energized cables. Antennas should not be installed or removed on rainy days and, if they fall toward the electrical grid, never attempt to hold them.
Maintenance services on TVs, fans, computers, or any other device should never be performed with the equipment plugged in. The basic recommendation is that it must first be removed from the outlet, in order to ensure safety for carrying out the repair. Another important guideline is not to use simple devices, such as smartphones, notebooks or tablets while recharging. Many domestic accidents involving energy have already been reported due to the use of these devices during the charging period.
