Community Nursery Project

The Community Nursery Project - Sowing in the Sertão of Paraíba is a voluntary initiative by Neoenergia, which operates the Renewable Complex in the region, consisting of Wind Farms and Photovoltaic Plants. This project is being carried out in the community of Latadinha, in São José do Sabugi - PB and will continue until July 2026, bringing together sustainable management practices, technical training and the active participation of residents. The community nursery is aimed at producing native and fruit seedlings, with a focus on environmental recovery, income generation and strengthening family farming.
The nursery has been structured to produce thousands of native and fruit seedlings a year. The space has an efficient irrigation system, a shaded area and a place for rustification and the use of organic waste. In addition, a sidewalk-type cistern is being built, a social technology that will make it possible to capture and store rainwater, guaranteeing supply even during long periods of drought.
The action directly involves around 35 families - approximately 100 people - and combines sustainable production with income generation. Until 2026, the residents will take part in qualification courses, training in entrepreneurship and small business management, opening up new prospects for family farming in the region.

According to the president of the community association, José de Tião, the project has represented more than technical learning: "Taking part in setting up the community nursery has been a very important experience for the whole community. As well as learning techniques to produce quality seedlings, we are building hope for the future," he says.
The Latadinha Community was chosen because of its agricultural vocation and the need to expand the supply of quality seedlings for family farmers and reforestation actions in the Sertão region of Paraíba. The nursery is expected to become a benchmark in sustainable seedling production and community development.
The initiative is funded by Neoenergia, with technical support from the Association of Volunteers for International Service Brazil (AVSI Brasil) and partnerships with local municipalities and associations, consolidating itself as a benchmark in sustainable practices and community development.
