Distrito Federal terá primeiro ônibus do Brasil movido a hidrogênio verde em rota turística

Federal District to have Brazil's first green hydrogen bus on tourist route

3/25/26

Unprecedented partnership between Neoenergia, TEVX and GDF promotes free and sustainable leisure for the population

The federal capital will take an unprecedented step towards mobility and sustainable tourism. Neoenergia, TEVX and the Federal District Government (GDF) have signed a partnership to put Brazil's first commercial bus powered by green hydrogen into operation. The vehicle will be used on the civic tourist route called Rota Monumental, completely free of charge for the population, and represents a milestone in the search for 100% sustainable public transportation solutions.

The initiative was launched on Wednesday (25/03) at the country's first green hydrogen vehicle refueling station, built by Neoenergia in Taguatinga. The ceremony brought together authorities and representatives of the electricity sector, including Neoenergia's Commercial Executive Director, David Benavent del Prado, as well as the Secretaries of Tourism, Cristiano Araújo, and Transportation and Mobility, Zeno Gonçalves.

The Rota Monumental civic tour will be free of charge and will have a guide responsible for introducing visitors to the history of Brasília. The route will start at the TV Tower and pass by some of the capital's main landmarks, such as the National Museum, the Cathedral, the Esplanade of Ministries, the Three Powers Square and the National Theatre, among others. With an average duration of 1.5 hours, the tour will include two strategic stops: Catedral and Praça dos Três Poderes. At these points, tourists will be able to get off the vehicle to get to know the places better and take photos.

At first, the tours will begin with a route on Saturdays at 10am. If demand increases, there is the possibility of including routes on Sundays and Fridays in the calendar, totaling three days a week. To take part in the tour, simply book for free at https://linktr.ee/SeturDF.

Neoenergia acquired the vehicle from TEVX Motors Group, a Brazilian company specializing in the development of innovative electromobility solutions. The electric bus is equipped with a fuel cell that uses hydrogen gas in reaction with oxygen in the air. This reaction generates electricity to power the vehicle, offering a sustainable mobility solution free of polluting gas emissions, releasing only water through the exhaust system.

With the capacity to carry 71 passengers, 31 seated and another 40 standing, the model has an approximate range of 300 kilometers and a refueling time of approximately 10 to 15 minutes. During operation, it only releases water vapor, eliminating the emission of pollutants and helping to reduce the carbon footprint of urban transport.

According to David Benavent del Prado, the initiative reinforces Neoenergia's commitment to the energy transition and the development of innovative solutions. "This project boosts the electrification of the economy and strengthens Brazil's position in new sustainable energy chains," he said.

For Cristiano Araújo, Secretary of Tourism, the return of the civic city tour symbolizes much more than the resumption of a traditional tourist activity. "This is an innovative project that combines the appreciation of cultural heritage with sustainability, using a green hydrogen-powered bus. This initiative reaffirms Brasília's commitment to the future, positioning the capital as a modern, intelligent destination aligned with the best environmental practices, while at the same time expanding and qualifying the experience for residents and visitors."

Cadu Souza, CEO of TEVX, emphasizes that this is a unique moment for mobility in Brazil. "Smart cities are those that focus on the quality of life of their inhabitants. The strength of this project lies in its pioneering spirit in opening the doors of a tourist route that takes in our history with the innovation of a hydrogen solution that contributes to a more sustainable future for mobility in the country."

Unprecedented infrastructure - The fuel used by the vehicle will be produced at Neoenergia's green hydrogen plant, located in Taguatinga. The unit received investments of more than R$30 million, made possible through the National Electric Energy Agency's Research, Development and Innovation Program (PDI ANEEL).

Hydrogen is produced through the electrolysis of water, a process that separates hydrogen from oxygen, using energy from a photovoltaic plant. In this way, the entire energy cycle is based on locally produced renewable sources.

The choice of Brasília to host the project takes into account the capital's strategic importance and its capacity to implement innovative low-emission mobility solutions. The initiative positions the Federal District as a national benchmark in the development of clean technologies applied to transportation.

Innovation platform - In addition to supplying the bus, the structure in Taguatinga will function as a Knowledge and Innovation Center aimed at developing new applications for green hydrogen. The space will be dedicated to technical feasibility research and studies to expand the use of this technology in both public transportation and industrial sectors.
