NEOENERGIA PROFITS R$ 477.38 MILLION IN THE 1ST SEMESTER OF 2006

NEOENERGIA, controller company of the electrical energy distributors COELBA, CELPE and COSERN, of the generators ITAPEBI, TERMOPERNAMBUCO, AFLUENTE, BAGUARI I and GOIAS SUL, and of the dealer NC Energia, had net consolidated profit of R$ 239.73 million in the second quarter of 2006, accruing a net profit of R$ 477.38 million to Junethis year, representing an increase of 18.3% over the result of the same period last year, when the company had profited R$ 403.51 million.

EBITDA/LAJIDA (Profit before the interests, taxes, depreciation and amortization) in the first semester of this year was of R$ 1,078.91 million (R$ 1,173.46million in the same period of 2005), representing an 8.1% decrease compared to the same period last year. EBITDA/LAJIDA recorded in the second quarter ofthis year was of R$ 514.50 million (R$ 508.70 million in the second quarter of 2005), 1.14% more than the recorded in the same period last year.

The consolidated gross operational revenue amounted this semester R$ 4,006.78 million (R$ 3,534.07 million in the same period last year). The gross operational revenue of the second quarter, of R$ 2,006.28 million, increased 15.54% compared to the same period of 2005, of R$ 1,736.48 million. The net revenue accrued in the six months amounted R$ 2,713.36 million, 9.94% over the net revenue of the same period last year, of R$ 2,467.98 million (R$ 1,360 million in the second quarter of this year, representing a growth of 15.91% compared to the same quarter in 2005).

The consolidated electrical energy supply of the distributors in the second quarter was of 5,279,521 MWh, before a turnover consumption of 5,232,129 MWh in the same period last year.

In June 2006, the consolidated number of clients of the three distributors grew 4.92% compared to the same period last year, which meant an increment of 344.047 new consumers. Residential, commercial and country classes were the ones presenting greater growth. The increase in the number of Country classclients is propelled through the implementation of the 'Light for Everybody Program' by distributors, amounting a total of 194,264 new connections, including those performed since 2004 up to the second quarter of this year, and the new connections to be performed until June 30th, 2006, and through the incorporation of cooperatives in COSERN concession area.

In the generation activity, Neoenergia Group has recorded in the second quarter of the year total sales of 1,422,876 MWh, 429,156 MWh being through Itapebi hydroelectric plant and 993,720 MWh through Termopernambuco thermoelectric plant. In the commercialization activity, NC Energia transacted 639,210 MWh in long terms contracts with free consumers and self-producers and 42,077 MWh in short term operations.

The total investments of Neoenergia Group in the second quarter of 2006 reached the amount of R$ 355.7 million, accruing an amount of R$ 609.2 million in the period of six months of this year. The resources were destined to electrical energy distribution network extension and the continuous improvement to systemreliability, to meet market demand aiming at expanding and improve the efficacy and quality of the services rendered to clients.
