Cosern

Cosern - Companhia Energética do Rio Grande do Norte - provided 3,807 GWh to 1.0 million consumers in 2008. In the same year, it registered net profit of 212.3 million and EBITDA of R$ 262.6 million, being responsible for the generation of 10% of Neoenergia's cash.

The company, which started its activities in 1962, from the interior of the state of Rio Grande do Norte, was acquired by Neoenergia in 1997. Today, the Neoenergia Group holds 84.45% of participation in Cosern.

Already in its first year as privatized company, R$ 40.6 million were invested in the improvement and expansion of the energy transmission and distribution system. The investments continued and in 2005 and 2006, Cosern was elected the Best Company in the Brazilian Electrical Sector by FGV. In 2008, R$ 123.3 million were invested, large part of which destined for the universalization programs, among them, Program Luz para Todos.
