Águas da Pedra

Energética Águas de Pedra is a specific purpose company that is being constructed on the Aripuanã River, state of Mato Grosso, since August 2007. This SPE, is controlled by Neoenergia (51%), and it also has shareholders such as Eletronorte (24.5%) and Chesf (24.5%). The work is predicted to be finished by 2010, it is estimated that R$ 745 million will be invested, of which, approximately R$ 380 million will be allocated by Neoenergia, 65% of this amount will be financed by third-party resources and 35% by own resources.

The AHE Dardanelos environmental feasibility process started in 2003, and was conducted by Eletronorte. The hydroelectric power plant bidding happened on October 10th 2006, after obtaining the Previous Environment License (LP) the winner of this bidding was a consortium created by the companies of SPE Energética Águas da Pedra. On may 3rd 2007, Dardanelos received its Installation License (LI), becoming a project apt to initiate the implantation activities. After being built, the power plant will have a nominal capacity of 261MW and reservoir of 0.24 KM², which corresponds to the best relation between the flooded area and the generated power under construction in Brazil.

The power generated by AHE Dardanelos will be traded with the pool of 24 distributors in Brazil, via power trading contracts executed in the Regulated Contracting Environment.

Even before the start of the operations, a number of social-environmental program are already being developed in the AHE region, involving conservation, monitoring and the local fauna and flora species inventory, public health programs, to support basic education and leisure, tourism and cultural activities.
