PREVI – The Social Security Fund for Banco do Brasil Employees was created in 1904, before the official establishment of social security in Brazil. It is a private social security entity, in which Banco do Brasil employees and its own staff may take part. The purpose of the entity is to provide social security and pension benefits by means of the official system. Previ has approximately 178 thousand members, of which 86 thousand are active employees of Banco do Brasil and 92 thousand are retired. The pension fund of Banco do Brasil employees is the largest pension fund in Latin America and ranks 45th in terms of assets in the world ranking. Its investments totaled R$ 142.4 billion in 2009. Previ holds interest in approximately 55 companies, such as Neoenergia, Vale, Gerdau S.A., Embraer and Tim Participações S.A.

Banco do Brasil, which is the largest financial institution in Latin America, was established on October 12, 1808, aiming to foster production in Brazil, trade farming products of Federal Government interest and incentive the commercial exchange with foreign countries, besides acting as an enforcement instrument of the credit and financial policy adopted by the Brazilian government. It has 103 thousand employees and over 52 million clients, in addition to over 17 thousand service points in 3.6 thousand cities in Brazil; it operates in 23 countries and has international partnerships (Visa, Mastercard and Western Union), which allow accessing services worldwide, offering solutions for all banking needs, from large financial engineering operations to personal credit. Its net profit amounted for R$ 10.1 billion in 2009.
