Rio PCH I, having as shareholders Neoenergia (75%) and PCH Administração e Participações LTDA (25%), is responsible for the operation of Pirapetinga and Pedra do Garrafão PCHs, both on River Itabapoana between the states of Rio de Janeiro and EspÃrito Santo.

Pirapetinga PCH started operations in August 2009 by means of actuating its two Francis turbines, with horizontal axle, of 10 MW each, totaling 20 MW of installed power and 12.71 MW average guaranteed power output.

In September 2009 the 2 Francis turbines with vertical axle of Pedra do Garrafão PCH started operating, with total installed power of 19 MW and 11.91 MW average guaranteed power output.
